AI generated images induce a new form of life

Images generated by artificial intelligence are not photographs like any others, yet they present themselves as such within our digital environments. The philosopher Pierre Cassou-Noguès examines the effect produced by the digital machine, whether or not we know that these images are manufactured by an artificial intelligence. He also shows how these so-called “pyromaniac” images encourage an avoidance of the reality of the environmental crisis, while at the same time contributing to it.
